Mahidol University visits CSI Bangkok

Mahidol University visits CSI Bangkok

On January 8, 2025, CSi Bangkok had the pleasure of hosting five outstanding students and their supervisor from Mahidol University.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for the students to present their impressive undergraduate project focused on structural and sustainable building design

The project stood out for its innovative use of advanced energy analysis and parametric design tools to improve building performance and sustainability. By using propriety state-of-the-art structural analysis software, the team designed complex systems, including flat slabs with drop panels and post-tensioned slabs, while developing a sustainable co-working space focused on environmental friendliness and resource efficiency.

The students demonstrated a strong grasp of engineering concepts as they explained their design process, addressed challenges, and shared practical solutions. They also offered insightful suggestions for improving the software improvements, reflecting their deep understanding of structural engineering and modern design technologies.

The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia and industry. The team at CSi Bangkok was impressed with the Mahidol University team for their outstanding work and look forward to their continued contributions to the field of structural engineering and sustainable design.

Project Overview

  • The students designed a sustainable co-working space with advanced structural systems while focusing on environmental friendliness and resource efficiency.
  • The design aims to meet the demand for modern co-working spaces in high-density areas.

Design Approach & Tools

Schematic Design

  • Used Rhino and Grasshopper for 3D modeling and parametric design.
  • Focused on creating innovative building forms.

Structural Design

  • Utilized ETABS and SAFE for structural analysis.
  • Ensured the building’s safety and stability under various loads.

Overall Goals

  • Develop a model for sustainable buildings that meet business and social needs.
  • Reduce environmental impact through the use of eco-friendly technologies and materials (e.g., Post Tension systems and PostConnex columns).

Benefits for Students

  • Enhanced skills in:
  • Designing buildings with new forms (Rhino, Grasshopper)
  • Structural analysis (ETABS, SAFE)
  • Green building principles
