The Steel Construction Forum 2025, organized by Sahaviriya Steel Industries through the We Love Steel Construction initiative, was held online across four days from 7th to 8th and 14th to 15th of November.
The program brought together experts, practitioners and academics for technical presentations, knowledge sharing, and focused discussions across structural engineering, steel fabrication and construction practices.
The forum highlighted current developments in steel structures and offered a dedicated space for professionals to exchange insights and strengthen collaboration within the steel construction community.
Redefining Steel Structures
The opening day on November 7 focused on the theme “Redefining Modern Steel Structures” that featured a lineup of distinguished speakers from leading institutions and organizations in Thailand.
Prof. Dr. Sutat Leelataweewat of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) opened the program with a presentation on steel innovations for seismic resistant buildings. His presentation was followed by Dr. Pornpong Asawadadecha of Synterra who discussed integrated helical pile design. Dr. Kittiput Plengkham of Aurecon then shared his expertise on the structural design of data center facilities.
The program also included a broader industry outlook from Ms. Kanyarat Kanchanavisut of Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) who provided an overview and forecast of the Thai construction sector.
Dr. Naveed’s session
Among these expert contributions, Dr. Naveed Anwar, CEO of CSI Bangkok, also delivered his technical perspectives on the past, present, and future of structural analysis and design optimization tools. He not only provided valuable context on how engineering practices and technologies continue to evolve but also gave practical examples of how to use software in real-world applications.
His session outlined key themes relevant to today’s engineering practice including:
- evolution of built environment designing
- workflow of structural design
- use of AI in structural engineering
- parametric modeling
- structural analysis
- design optimization
- integrated design using tools such as SAP2000 and CSiSteel
