Seismic performance of building Model Competition

Overview

The “Seismic Performance of Building Model” competition, hosted by the Structural Engineering Forum at AIT and sponsored by CSI Bangkok, invited graduate and undergraduate students from AIT and other universities to design and test building models for seismic resistance.

Students had to build actual models using:

  • Balsa Wood ( Max.12mm x 12mm cross section).
  • Connections: Bolting, superglue, string, epoxy, or screw(plan accordingly).
  • Baseplate: Should be made of Plywood/cardboard & should be exactly 30cm*30cm. To fix your model to the shaking table, the minimum cover on all four sides of the base plate should be at least 1.25 cm.

The event was a great opportunity for students to showcase their skills and creativity in a competitive environment.

Dr. Naveed Anwar, CEO of CSI Bangkok, led the judging panel, while the CSI team actively engaged with the students, offering valuable insights and fostering industry discussions. The top three teams were rewarded with an exclusive chance to attend a CSI event, recognizing their exceptional performance.
