Dr. Naveed Anwar presents at seminar on Bridge fundamentals using CSiBridge in Manila

Bridge Fundamentals and application using CSiBridge

Overview

CSI Bangkok, in collaboration with The Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (ASEP) organized a one-day technical seminar on Bridge Fundamentals and Applications Using CSiBridge in Metro Manila, Philippines.

This technical event was designed for structural engineers, bridge designers, and infrastructure professionals who are looking to enhance their expertise in seismic bridge design, load case handling, and parametric modeling using CSiBridge and CSiBridge-EXPRESS.

The seminar featured keynote speakers Dr. Naveed Anwar and Dr. Pramin Norachan. Their sessions covered topics such as seismic bridge design principles, load case handling, and workflow integration using CSiBridge software.

Additionally, the event included hands-on training on modeling and designing I-girder bridges using CSiBridge and CSiBridge-EXPRESS, which was presented by Mr. Muhammad Hammad.

Participants gained practical knowledge and hands-on experience that will be highly useful in their engineering projects.

Event Details

  • Date: February 26, 2025
  • Time: 08:00 – 17:00
  • Venue: LUXENT HOTEL, 51 Timog Ave, Diliman, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines

Overview

Over 130 bridge engineers and industry professionals from across the Philippines gathered at Luxent Hotel for a comprehensive seminar on modern bridge design. The event focused on introducing the advanced capabilities of CSiBridge in improving efficiency and accuracy in bridge engineering practices. The diverse audience, ranging from bridge engineering experts to early-career engineers, demonstrated a strong commitment to embracing innovative methods and technologies in the field.

Keynote Speakers

  • Dr. Naveed Anwar discussed the critical lifecycle phases of bridges and the importance of selecting the appropriate systems and components for safe, resilient structures. He emphasized the necessity of robust seismic design and shared practical examples that underscored the value of advanced analysis techniques in earthquake-prone regions.
  • Dr. Pramin Norachan focused on advanced analysis methods, including moving loads, time-history analysis, and construction staging available in CSiBridge Program. He also showed how CSiBridge-EXPRESS® simplifies the modeling process with user-friendly features like parametric design, automated meshing, and result visualization.
  • Mr. Muhammad Hammad delivered hands-on sessions in which he led participants through a detailed bridge modeling exercise using CSiBridge and CSiBridge-EXPRESS prgroams. The session covered modeling, analysis and design of bridge example along with generating Bills of Quantities, automated rebar detailing, and producing comprehensive design reports. Emphasis was placed on how these tools significantly reduce manual computations and potential errors compared to traditional design methods.

Seminar Highlights & Discussions

  • Efficiency and Accuracy: Attendees noted that CSiBridge offers a significant improvement over conventional design methods by automating repetitive tasks and ensuring higher precision in the analysis process.
  • Advanced Seismic Analysis: A key focus was placed on modern seismic analysis techniques—such as pushover, response spectrum, and time-history analysis—demonstrating the software’s capability to design bridges that can withstand seismic forces effectively.
  • Local Code Integration: Many participants expressed a keen interest in adapting the software to meet Philippine design codes and standards. The discussions underscored the need for additional training and resources.
  • Engaging Q&A Session: The event concluded with a dynamic Q&A session where attendees raised pertinent questions on integrating traditional engineering fundamentals with advanced software outputs. This dialogue reinforced the importance of maintaining a strong theoretical foundation while leveraging modern tools.

Outcomes and future adoptions

  • Adoption and Implementation: Numerous participants indicated their intention to integrate CSiBridge (both Main and Express versions) into their upcoming projects, acknowledging its potential to transform bridge design practices.
  • Ongoing Training: Based on positive feedback, plans are underway to conduct further seminars, webinars, and workshops.
  • Strengthening Collaboration: The event has paved the way for enhanced collaboration between CSi Bangkok, ASEP, and local engineering institutions, with the goal of elevating bridge engineering practices across the Philippines.

Overall, the event was a huge success with not just a large gathering of qualified professionals but also the quality of the presentations and deliverance. It was an amazing experience for all who participated.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all who attended and contributed to the success of this seminar. We look forward to continued collaboration in advancing bridge engineering throughout the Philippines.
