9ACEE - 9th Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering

9th Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering

Overview

The 9th Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (9ACEE) took place from 4–6 May 2026 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Previously hosted across Asia in cities such as Manila, Bangkok, Tokyo, Cebu, and Taipei, the conference brought its 2026 edition to Kathmandu, continuing its role as a key platform for regional collaboration in earthquake engineering.

This year’s theme, “Risk to Resilience: Linking Science to the People,” centered on a fundamental question: how does engineering translate into real-world impact in the face of seismic activity? The discussions focused on what ultimately gets designed, built, and relied upon when it matters most.

About the conference

9ACEE is a three-day technical conference featuring an opening ceremony, welcome addresses, keynote lectures, and parallel technical sessions led by distinguished speakers. A wide range of topics in earthquake engineering and resilience were explored, fostering knowledge exchange among engineers, researchers, and academics.

Beyond the technical program, the conference included networking events, banquets, and an optional field visit to Bhaktapur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Organizers

The conference is organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), Government of Nepal, in collaboration with the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) and the Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (ACEE).

It is hosted by the National Society for Earthquake Technology Nepal (NSET), with support from academic institutions, professional bodies, and development partners.

CSI Bangkok at 9ACEE

CSI Bangkok, together with Computers & Structures, Inc. supported 9ACEE as a Title Sponsor, with contributions that included:

  • Keynote talk on ‘Performance-Based Design in the Age of AI: From Research to Engineering Practice’ by Dr. Naveed Anwar
    • Dr. Naveed also participated in a panel discussion alongside industry experts. The topic of the panel was on ‘Frontline CSOs & Researchers: Stronger Together for Last-Mile Earthquake Resilience (ADRRN-ERM Hub)’.
  • A dedicated exhibition booth showcasing CSI Bangkok products, projects, and other initiatives
  • Direct engagement with participants on engineering tools, workflows, and solutions

This participation reflects CSI Bangkok’s ongoing commitment to advancing engineering practice through knowledge sharing and practical technology solutions, while also strengthening connections within the regional engineering community.
